CEVA Announces Open Power League

CEVA will be creating a separate division of Power League in the 2022-2023 season – called “Open” – that will allow teams to seek a higher level of competition.

Open Power League will be age-mixed, meaning teams from 14s-18s can register for the division and would play each other throughout the season.  Any team classified as a 14s team or older may register for Open Power League.  Teams classified as 13s and younger are not eligible to register.

Open will replace Platinum League, which has been in place for the 16s and 18s as a collaboration with the Puget Sound Region.  Open does not replace CEVA’s traditional Power League – it is an additional division within the existing Power League structure.

Open will have one Qualifier tournament and three regular tournaments during the Power League season.  The division will play on the same dates as the current 18s schedule:

  • January 21 (Qualifier)
  • February 11
  • March 18
  • April 15

Tournament formats will be like regular Power League – typically consisting of pool play followed by a bracket match in the afternoon.  CEVA’s intent is to provide R1s on each match in Open Power League.

Registration for Open Power League will take place in conjunction with the existing Power League, opening at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 7.  The deadline is 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30.  Cost is $650 per team, plus standard fees for R1s on each match ($55/team/tournament).

Once teams register in Open, they will be in that division for the season, regardless of results.  There is not a mechanism for teams to move between Open and another Power League division.

Teams in the Open Division will be given priority in seeding for the CEVA Bid Tournament.  These teams will be a separate division in Regionals, and they will play on the second weekend of the event – May 6-7.

The CEVA website and Junior Girls’ Handbook are currently being updated for the 2022-2023 season and will include this information.  Club Directors can also expect to receive updates via their weekly e-mails coming from the region.

Questions regarding Open Power League can be directed to the CEVA office.
